They like the groups they identify with to seem pure, even when they are not.

As i was discussing with a friend last night, this is the danger of "partisan politics". The deeper you dig in defending your side, the greater the likelihood you will compromise what your heart and mind believe to be true. Though definitally lean conservative, there are tenets i cannot hold.
