I don't think life is inevitably like the movies. These aren't Bruce Willis / Die Hard kind of villains. They have life long manifestos of seeking to proselytize their brand of fundamentalism. What is Billionaire Bin going to do with money that he can't already? More money at the expense of his actions gives him fewer personal options. His name is Pariah outside of Afghanistan at this point.

So you think his personal greed drives him to short some insurance reinsurers by training a hundred people for a year to crash 4 airplanes and kill 5,000 people? I don't think you are talking about a man that is motivated by greed. I think it's hardly a matter of what they may want us to believe.
