DJ, I think West's post is about investments. The question is what would be the next escalation step after the US and its allies pound Afghanistan? Tony Blair and other pretty smart people acknowledged that it may very well be nuclear, chemical or biological attacks on US or European cities. What would you do if one of the hundreds of missing Soviet nukes blows up Munich? I think after Sept 11 the probability of that happening is non-negligible, and if it does happen, West's hoard would turn out to be an excellent investment.

PS 1. I realize that Munich is pretty down the list of possible terrorist nuclear targets. US cities are at the top though and West lives in the US.

PS 2. I don't think most of us have realized what all-out war means this time around. WW I or WW II were walks in the park, at least for the US, compared to what is in store now. I think our leaders should come out and tell us that if we proceed down the road we are proceeding, there is a good probability that weapons of mass destruction will be used on US cities with hundreds of thousands of deaths per incident.
