Actually, I'm not in favor of what I perceive your view to be of an all out war.

I am in favor of:

A global multinational effort to eliminate the states that are harboring or otherwise aiding terrorist activity. That is, put simply, those states where extremist groups are allowed to practice their war making ability are now the subject of modern warfare.

I am in favor of a full force military conflict against those states that refuse to cooperate with our demands to allow us to capture/apprehend/destroy/kill/mame those who are practicing terrorist activity or warfare.

The Taliban, currently fit that definition.

For those governments who are unable to handle their problems, a multination effort would then be employed to handle it for them.

All of this presumes that these people would be willing to fight. The fact is they aren't. They are cowards. And for that their is no military solution. For this we must use our means as the technological leaders of the free world to cripple their finances, defenses, their communication, and their ability to make war. We must help others to do so, and we must rely on each other.

I feel that you sense that this will escalate to some type of global war. It is quite likely; however, I would rather fight one with geographical lines than allow my child to grow up in a world of fear and indifference.
