The Death Wish: Western Elitists Have Long Sided With Foes Of U.S. (by Paul Craig Roberts) On Sept. 2, the Washington Times asked, "Where is Fannon?" and declared the apostle of the Third World liberation a "lost prophet of anti-colonialist violence." Nine days later, the newspaper's question was answered with the destruction of the World Trade Center and nearby buildings, four airliners, the partial destruction of the Pentagon and the loss of thousands of American lifes. Frantz Fanon predicted that an oppressed Third World would overthreow its first world oppressors. His book, "The Wretched of the Earth," has six editions in Arabic and helped inculate hatred of whites in people of color. The book also helped inculate self-hate among whites. Fanon had many allies among Western intellectuals and professors. In his introduction to Fanon's book, French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre advocated shooting Europeans as a means of "killing two birds with one stone". It was at Stanford University in the early 1970s. Fanon's book was a best seller on the campus of this upper-class university. Vietnam, capitalism, greed and racism had convinced many sensitive souls that America deserves to be destroyed. Intellectuals Without Intellect Disgust with America and dispair over her ways was the essence of education. Professor John Gurley, editor of the American Economic Review, placed his hopes in Maoist economics. His Stanford office, like many others, was decorated with a huge poster of Chaiman Mao. For three decades, students all over America have been taught antipathy to their own country and sympathy to Third World countries that they cannot locate on a map. During the Sadinista revolution in Nicaragua, some American female reporters were so enamored of the communist thugs that they alledgedly had love affairs with them. In the years since, things have gotten worse. Critical race theorists, critical legal theorists, feminists, deconstructionists, multiculturists and other "ists" have reconstructed Marxism in race and gender terms. Professors teach that races and genders have opposed and irreconcilable interests, just as Marx taught that workers and capitalists could not be reconciled. The only difference is that the white male has replaced the capitalist as the evil hegemonist of history. By denying the existence of good will and common interests among races, genders and classes, Marxists see coercion as the basis of relations among groups. These ideas are far more influential than most people are aware. In the universities, white males experience coercion in kangaroo courts and sensitivity training. In the wider society, the 1964 Civil Rights Act made coercion, not percuasion, the basis for integration. The act presupposes that if left to their own concience, whites would never accept blacks as schoolmates, employees, restaurant and hotel customers or colleagues. Now we'll see if the U.S. can recuperate from 30 years of guilt inculcation and conduct a war against the wretched of the earth. President Bush said in his Tuesday address that the U.S. will treat countries that provide heavens to terrorists the sae as terrorists. Apparently, Bush is unaware that the U.S. is the heaven of choice for terrorist groups. Backyard Terrorists In January 2000, counterterrorism expert Steven Emerson told the House Judiciary Committee that the U.S. and Canada are heavens for the Palestinian Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the Lebanese Hizbullah, the Algerian Armed Islamic Group, The Egyptian Al Gamat and Osamat bin Laden's Al Qaida group. A foolish or criminal immigration policy and unconstitutional racial quotas have enabled terrorist cells to hide themselves in religious and civil rights organizations. Terrorists may go to Afghanistan, the Middle East and North Africafor training, but they live in the U.S. and Canada. We know very little about the terrorists in our country. Sen. Frank Church, D-Idaho, emasculated the CIA in the mid 1970s when the American political left rushed to the defense of Fidel Castro. The FBI got so much grief for spying on Martin Luther King for his communist connections that the bureau has shied away from infiltrating another minority group. Instead, the FBI has followed a politically correct strategy of focusing on white supremacist groups. Arabs and Muslims are "protected minorities". Under U.S. civil rights laws, it is illegal to racially profile and infiltrate protected minorities because of skin color or creed. The U.S. is in an unenviable position. It cannot tell one domestic Arab or Muslim from another. The white elites that lead the country and control information are ridden with racial guilt. Civil rights laws and sheer numbers of Muslim immigrants work against our ability to root out the fifth lolumns organized on our territory. If terrorists can sustain the level of activity of Sept. 11 the U.S. will be forced to abandon Israel and sue for peace. |
