I would hate to see this potentially-useful thread ruined in arguments about the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. In my view, The question of Israel's right to exist is a very minor aspect of the overall objectives of Mr. Bin Laden and Islamic fundamentalists. Their enemy is modernity, freedom of thought and religious diversity.

It has been sad to see Palestinians held hostage and used by their oil-rich Arab brothers for 52 years in squalid camps. It has been sad to see Mr. Arafat squander opportunity after opportunity to have his Palestinian state, the last being the Camp David negotiations. It has been sad to see children, fueled with hate, thrown into battle and it has been sad to see any voices of Palestinian dissent muffled.

If Mr. Bersohn wishes to spread patently anti-Israel, anti-Zionist passions and positions, perhaps he should start a thread devoted to that single subject.

After Tuesday's calumny, I think there are far more substantial foreign policy issues facing us than to engage in fruitless debate over Israel-Palestine.
