From the MF boards

I received some junk mail today from Bob Brinker's Marketimer, soliciting me to subscribe to his newsletter. Here are some quotes from the letter, for your amusement.

The opening line is "Bull market? Bear market? You don't have to guess any more".
Editorial Comment: He seems to be guessing right now. Is he bullish or bearish?

"You should accept the fact that market timing matters"
Editorial Comment: He has a recommended reading list full of books that say the opposite.

"He hunted down the bear market of 2000-2001 two months before it began. Even subscribers who pondered their actions had time to get out."
Editorial Comment: I sold stocks in January 2000 and watched them double in a few months. Some would call this bad market timing, not giving people more time!

"In the January 2, 2001 issue, TIMER DIGEST named Bob their Timer Of The Year for 2000. Their report is shown below." (The report below showed that they consider Bob bullish since October of 2000 due to his "counter-trend rally" prediction).
Editorial Comment: No mention of the abysmal performance of being bullish since October 2000.

Another quote from TIMER DIGEST: "He remained bullish for all of 1999, issued a well-timed sell signal near the early January 2000 high, and returned to the bullish camp near the October low."
Editorial Comment: Didn't the market go down between October and the end of the year? Why do they make his return to the bullish camp sound positive?

The letter ends with, "Bob Brinker's Marketimer is the top market timing newsletter in America, in up and down markets."

Interesting comments especially after all those posts saying that subscribers used to be warned they wouldn't be allowed to resubscribe if they let their subscriptions lapse. Guess biz is not what it used to be before Bob's QQQ trading debacle.

Anyone else have more info on this?
