Scott, This article lost me when it attempted to link tobacco with the the recent atrocities. I am not, nor have I ever been a smoker. I run from the stench of it. But it is now a cash cow for government on every level, as well as for the candidates who can count on the issue as a no-brainer for support and money. Let the author show how the cash will flow into the national coffer when we fight. I think Friedman's NYT article is a complete disconnect from the matter at hand. Friedman must know that. It makes me wonder if he has the credentials to address anything else.
