Whitehorse was evacuated too, that's where the KAL 747 landed, as well as a previous one diverted there ... apparently some other signal like fuel management or hydraulic system or something was misinterpreted as the hijack transponder ... confused by the excitement likely eh ... yes the north depends on aviation, and it was all shut down for a while ... one helicopter company in BC and the Yukon was told to keep their machines ready to go on two minutes notice, pilots slept in them that night ... emergency response precaution likely
So far it's not demonstrated that any of the hijackers came through Canada, that was a false alarm at the Nova Scotia ferry, those two had rented a car in Boston and drove north, not the other way round ... not that i'm up on the details completely, but there's been talk of most being in the US for some time, and others entering from the Bahamas and Europe ..... but there will be tighter borders everywhere, for sure, and much longer times in airports, at all travel collection points .... and every time i go to México i'll be adding another swiss army knife - got two now because last time down i forgot the first on the kitchen counter and had to go to Sanborn's and buy another, just doesn't feel right going anywhere without the entire 'penknife, shilling, and piece of string' kit
No talk of softwood lumber on our road since Monday evening, of course ... just as we drop the intraprovincial struggles when assaulted by the 'commerce' department, so that in turn fades into the background when something larger presents itself to the greater family ... sibling rivalry put off for another day
