There may or may not have been other factors at that time. I still do not see a logical reason for a drop in consumer spending.

Ditto. It seems to me that after the initial shock Americans will slowly go back to their routines. The money not spent this last five days is still there in their bank accounts and before Christmas is here it will all be spent up.
