I believe that is a paraphrase of a comment by a Hawaiian Island elder.

A hundred years ago, the Christians came to our lands with their Bibles. Now, they have the land, and we have the Bibles.

There are two things bothering me today about the markets.

First, stock markets shouldn't be about patriotism, but about underlying business fundamentals. It is an adjunct of the bubble mentality that people are talking about 'keeping the markets up'. This is nonsense. PE's are out of whack and must ultimately come back to historical norms. Watch the US dollar tomorrow for a sign of what the foreign investors are going to do.

Second, the 8 figure a year analysts are now going to wrap themselves in the flag and abrogate any responsibility for the economic carnage which is about to follow. Layoffs, bankruptcies and ruined lives will all now be blamed on the terrorists. "My hands are clean", to quote Lady Macbeth.
