Instead of taking out Saddam Hussain,

This was not the objective of the Gulf War. Our objective was to drive Iraq out of Kuwait.

They wonder why the war was fought. They believe it was fought for oil.

It was. To take back the Kuwaiti oil fields and to protect the Saudi Arabian oil fields.

In hindsight, Yes, it would be nice if we had killed Saddam, but at the time the Arab coalition was becoming rattled. After all, we had bombed the ever-loving crap out of a fellow Arab for 3 months, however demented he may be.

Once Iraq was out of Kuwait and their ability to wage WAR against Saudi Arabia, the coalition was toast.
