A sad news item a friend sent today that I can only condemn:

>>I'm not proud of some events that took place in my hometown of Mesa yesterday. A gunman shot at a house and two gas stations. No one was harmed in the house or at one of the two gas stations, although the gunman aimed at a clerk, a male of Lebanese descent. The gunman shot and killed the owner of the second gas station, Balbir Singh Sadhi. Sadhi wore a black beard and a turban. He practiced the Sikh religion and came to this country a number of years ago from his home in Punjab, India. He had three sons. He was described as a quiet man, much liked and respected by customers, neighbors, and friends. Teens liked him because he always turned a blind eye when they skate boarded around the gas station, and didn't mind them hanging out there to chat with each other. He was also described as a very bright man. When he took the obligatory test for gas station owners he passed it with a perfect score.

What a shame. What a waste. <<

As Americans, I think it is incumbent upon us to take a few moments, clear our hearts of this capacity, then to reach out to this man's family in some way. Or shall we become less human?
