Americans need to remember that the rest of the world has an absolute right to self-determination that is as defensible as our own. Neo, we've had this discussion on this thread before. As I recall, we disagreed then as we disagree now. Other peoples have a right to be whatever they want to be. They just don't have the right to come here and blow us up. We have to be careful to make that distinction lest we come across as arrogant and imperialist, which just creates another set of problems down the road. It may still be too soon for us to be able to distinguish clearly between comments that explain those we don't understand and approve and comments in the Officer Krupke vein, but we're going to have to get there sooner or later. I mentioned to Cosmic the other day that it's too early to discuss issues in less than a black and white way. But I don't think it's too soon to start discussing the fact that sooner or later we will have to learn to discuss the gray. Karen
