With comments like this, you and Steven seem to be operating under the assumption that we are operating in a vacuum and the only participants are the US and the attackers. Saying nothing, or pretending to give in to the demands as Steven suggested, would cause great confusion, de-stabilization of governments, damage efforts to build a coalition willing to work on the problem, increase the risk of biological and chemical attack, and cause further death and destruction of innocents and their property.
