The only problem with low cost energy is that it doesnt encourage efficient use. I think its OK and even important that the US slow down in economic development now because we do not have the infrastructure to support the kind of growth that got us to this point. We hit the wall on the limits of the environment and infrastructure in the last couple years.

Power systems need to be built to distribute power efficiently and we need to go to work on improving air and water quality. If energy costs are low then there is no incentive to build more efficient systems until the ones we have break down, or when the air gets so bad that people cant breath.
