It appears that our government is already doing many of the things discussed here:

1) Take the time to build a coalition of nations who recognize the threat to their own national interests and are willing to cooperate to defend themselves against, and eradicate if possible, that threat.

2) In cooperation with other nations and organizations, develop the intelligence information necessary to sustain a prolonged and measured response to this threat.

3) Give the Taliban government time to recognize its peril and respond.

4) Apply pressure on that government to surrender those we seek, including pressure from it's allies.

5) Obtain the cooperation of neighboring countries, including former and current allies of the Taliban.

6) Develop specific targets, if possible, for military response, while minimizing collateral damage and casualties.

7) Take steps to protect and defend the integrity of the United States itself, its communications, transportation, and financial infrastructures.

8) Speak responsibly to the American people and the world.

I think our government has already done most of those things (and many others). I am not disappointed in its response nor am I afraid it will run amok. I hope that they do not attempt to invade and occupy Afghanistan - it would be a waste of human life and valuable time.
