The point of the response "render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's" was to placate the Jewish leaders who were trying to trap Christ into doing something they could legally arrest him for.

The question was "is it right to pay taxes to Rome?". Jesus answered by asking whose likeness was on the coin. It was of course Ceasars. That's why he said give unto Ceasar what is Ceasars, and give unto God that which belongs to God.

My quotation from Matthew 5 was an attempt to lighten the tense attitudes.

I must have missed the discussion on Ceasar while I was mowing.

Anyway Carolyn, have a good week.
