Tuesday September 11 2:54 PM ET Lilly: Xigris Meeting with FDA Postponed NEW YORK (Reuters) - Drugmaker Eli Lilly & Co.(NYSE:LLY - news) said on Tuesday that the meeting with a U.S. advisory panel regarding its experimental sepsis treatment Xigris has been postponed following the attacks in New York and Washington. ``The Xigris meeting has been canceled due to circumstances in Washington,'' said a Lilly spokeswoman. Three hijacked planes crashed into major U.S. landmarks on Tuesday, destroying both of New York's World Trade Center and part of the Pentagon (news - web sites) in Washington. Earlier Tuesday, U.S. regulatory staff said Xigris is effective, giving a positive review to the experimental treatment for sepsis a day before a panel was to weigh recommending it for approval. If approved, the drug would be the first sanctioned treatment for sepsis, a syndrome that causes organ failure and kills about 30 percent of the 750,000 people in the United States that come down with it each year.
