MB- Agreed. Taliban have to now hire foreignors to fight their battles...they do not have an unlimited supply of troops...also, this could turn out to be a 3 front war for them (Pakistan border), Kabul/Northern Alliance front, and wherever the U.S. winds up within country. That is a stretch for a group with troops in the small number that Taliban has.
Correct if I'm wrong, but against the Russians, the "freedom fighters" never tried to protect the border, right? (or, if they did, rather unsuccessfully I'd assume)..their real success was in getting the Russians to attack them in the hills and be sitting ducks below...a certain-type of fighting.......Trying to defend the Pakistan border is not where there expertise lies, IMO.
Holding serve will be not so easy, however, there is going to be heavy losses on all sides, no doubt. |
