I'm hoping that what happened here is that fairly moderate regimes were basically playing with matches, and accidentally set a little too much stuff on fire. I'd guess that Pakistan may have regrets about supporting the Taliban for real politic reasons now that the Taliban is threatening them with holy war. I'm hoping that the moderate regimes will now keep a tighter lid on their radical religious citizens, and that this will, at the very least, redirect the energies of those fanatics towards them instead of us.
