Hey, I'm not MC's biggest fan (not a fan at all now), but I think that what each person does to handle this tragedy is their own business.
I'm not a religious person, but I remember my Catholic training, and Jesus was very clear in his parables about garnering attention for your actions. He was also clear about who should cast the first stone. I'm not suggesting that MC's silence is following Jesus' example, but I am pointing out that we shouldn't be judgemental, and we should be patient with everyone at this time.
You have no idea if MC has contacted people personally. You have no idea if he has quietly donated money. You have no idea what he is doing. And regardless of what you THINK he SHOULD be doing, I think it is fair to let people deal with this tragedy in any way they see fit. To that end, my wife did point out a COMPAQ ad the other day in the NYTimes which sent out its condolences, so it isn't a question of being quiet. They have done something.
As for the buyout, I think that we shouldn't use today's selloff to complain about how low this has gone. Clearly, these are unusual times. Finally, if Tuesday's events have taught us nothing...it is that in the end, all of this is pitiful minutiae when your time comes. Let's allow the markets to sort themselves out over the next few days before we start lambasting people. |
