An advisor I respect enormously, a methodical and successful value player, has come as close as he ever does to throwing in the towel on an idea. He had been accumulating selected airline stocks (CAL his favorite & he wouldn't go near UAL) before 9-11.

He is now advocating reducing positions or working with stops under support (not his style). I understand his style well enough to believe he won't get out of the sector entirely.

His arguments about continuing risk in the airlines are well taken. However, a lot of bad has been priced into these stocks, and this advisor is as close to the last bull as I can think of in this sector.

I currently have no positions in airline stocks. Positions can change at any time, but I want no one to think I am talking up some stinky long. Do your own research, and love your limit and stop orders!
