Insurance companies are the epitome of conservative. While I'm sure they do hold securities, I'd wager that the larger bulk of their holdings are in less volatile issues such as bonds and that their stock holdings are decidedly blue chip. No safe haven today, maybe, but they don't need to write those checks today either. It's going to take months for the insurance issues to sort themselves out. My point is that, imho, the sell off today is not insurance related.
