not necessarily...you have to consider where we are in the K-wave. and we're NOT in the inflationary summer, which is what the 70's were. we're in the K-winter, and it is not gold per se that outperforms so much during that period, but rather the gold mines.
besides, if i've come across as advocating putting all eggs in one basket, that wasn't my intention. from a strict risk/reward standpoint diversification is always preferable over concentration. however, gold, and to a lesser degree silver, ARE the monetary metals, and thus the best vehicles to insure oneself against fiat excess.
one thing about the commodities in general, they bottom within the deflationary part of the K-wave, so at some point within the K-winter they should be bought.
