I was replying honestly to a question someone asked about whether AMD might profit in some way from the military build-up.

It was my duty to point out that AMD has spent the past 10 years moving away from its formerly pretty-strong position in embedded systems and mil-spec (29K, bipolars they got from acquired companies) so that Jerry could chase his dream of unseating Intel.

Well, if you're goingt to try to kill the king, you'd better not fail.

AMD has failed, overall, to knock off Intel. Meanwhile, Intel is stronger than ever in enterprise computing...the fault-tolerant systems likely to be the basis of future infrastructure expansion. They lack good Xeon-class MP, they lack a solid 64-bit solution ("Wait for the Hammer!"), and they lack the extensive contacts with the aerospace and defense industry that Intel has maintained over the years.

AMD shareholders should ask why Jerry was allowed to bet the entire company on a plan to take on Intel and defeat it in its own backyard.
