So answer my question? Why does Intel even need an agreement to use Rambus? Rambus should be begging and holding their breathe that Intel will use their technology.

I have no idea but unlike you I assume Intel management must have a reason. The fact that it isn't clear to me isn't proof that they're morons. As I said before, with the advent of SMT it is clear that DRDRAM's shortcoming, latency, is now much less of an issue and it's strength, bandwidth is untarnished. FSB speeds will go up to 533MHz and I assume DRDRAM speeds will increase as well to keep it fed. This may not be of much significance on the desktop but it probably will mean a lot at the highend. Could it be that higher speed versions of DRDRAM mean a new set of patents and new licenses?
