By: Sports Information
Date: September 17, 2001

Penn State's Big Ten opener with Wisconsin on Saturday, September 22, will now be televised by ABC Sports to a split national audience.

The contest will kick off at 12:10 p.m. EDT in Beaver Stadium. The game was originally scheduled to air on ESPN.

In addition, Penn State's first road game of the season, at Iowa on Saturday, September 29, will be televised by ESPN. The contest will kick off at 11:10 a.m. CT/12:10 p.m. ET in Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa.

The telecasts are the second and third announced TV appearances of the season for the Nittany Lions, who have appeared on television 81 times in their last 82 games, including the last 47 contests.

Penn State (0-1) and Wisconsin (1-2) will be meeting for the first time since 1998 and the Badgers will be playing in Happy Valley for the first time in four years. The Badgers lead the series, 4-2, with the teams splitting their four meetings since the Nittany Lions joined the Big Ten in 1993. Each team has one home and one road victory in the series since '93.

Penn State is returning to action for the first time since playing No. 1 Miami on Sept. 1. In the wake of last week's national tragedy, the Nittany Lions' game at Virginia was postponed from Sept. 13 to Dec. 1.

Penn State leads the series with Iowa, 10-5, but the Hawkeyes won, 26-23, in double overtime in Beaver Stadium last year. The visiting team has won 11 of the 15 meetings, with the Nittany Lions posting a 7-1 mark in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa is 2-0 and idle on Sept. 22.

Other Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten.
