Mitch, New Yorkers have done me proud by their compassion and understanding. It is particularly heartwarming, given that many people here personally know of someone who was affected. I think the fact that NYC is a most international city and New Yorkers have been in contact with other nations, may have something to do with it.

I am all for punishing the guilty. I just hope that we gather all the facts first and limit our anger only to the guilty. Not too long ago, we destroyed a vaccine factory in Sudan and killed innocent people because we believed it to be making chemical warfare for Osama bin Ladin. Months later that turned out not to be the case. The factory was legitimate. I do not recall an appology and compensation to those we wrongly killed. Those who believe in "preemptive strikes" and that "force works, lots of force works even better", need to keep this in mind; mistakes happen and often they are irrepairable.

Another cause of concern is the civil liberties here in America. This attack is being used by many people (from government agencies to foreign lobbies and market participants) for personal agenda. Forbes online has an article titled The Big Lie [ forbes.com ] and discusses just that. Here is a portion:

It's also irresponsible to suggest waiving civil rights. Take the bill passed by the Senate two days after the attack.* It would permit police to tape phones and seize Internet records without a search warrant. That would leave Americans vulnerable to even greater evils.

"It is something we will all regret down the road," says Timothy Lynch, a constitutional law expert with the Cato Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.

all the best,
