Poplar acquires remaining North Star shares

Mon 17 Sept 2001

News Release

Mr. W. Gennen McDowall reports

The company has completed the acquisition of the remaining 35 per cent of
the issued and outstanding shares of North Star Diamonds AS and,
accordingly, North Star is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
The company has issued 4,508,000 common shares in its capital to various
arm's-length parties, which shares are subject to a one-year hold period
trading restriction.
The directors of Poplar welcome the former North Star shareholders who have
supported the Swedish projects since 1997. The company looks forward to
their continuing enthusiasm and support of Poplar.
The company now owns 100 per cent of the Bottenbacken project. The
Bottenbacken project is a polymetallic exploration project with palladium,
copper and gold credits located within the Storsjo Precambrian window in
central Sweden. The Bottenbacken licence area covers approximately 10,000
hectares. A 20-hole (3,000-metre) drill program commenced on Sept. 10,
2001.
