Could you elaborate on the forms of "exploitation" that you suggest are widespread outside the technology sector?

Earlier you have spoken of your distaste for compensation structures that seemed inordinately skewed in favor of senior management. Do you have any concrete evidence that wages in the technology sector are any more egalitarian?

I have a friend (MIT grad) who works for a software company in SV. I visited his workplace and noticed that he appeared to be one of the few American-born programmers there. He said that he felt that his wages were certainly constrained by the abundance of Indian and Chinese programmers who were happy to work for lower wages. Although his nominal salary seemed quite high to me, once I learned his San Jose rent costs, it became clear to me that those young Asian programmers are probably saving alot more money than he is because they were used to sharing small apartments. Is this typical of tech companies in SV? Does it sound like exploitation?

What would an ideal compensation structure look like?
