Steven, Orckit only had VDSL demo at SuperComm but no ADSL, I checked the physical equipment & connection thay had at the show and I am 100% sure they did not have any ADSL as one of the company staff ask my address to send the informations to me later. She stated that, the company (Orckit) does not have ADSL equipment available this year but very soon in early 1997. Westell demostrated the HDSL but not ADSL even they do carrying ADSL-CAP and search to switch to ADSL/DMT. They are getting themselve on the standard ANSI. Their products is unlike to the one from Amati Communications, Inc. which is holding the standard ANSI on their products and everyone like NEC, Motorola, US West, GTE, Swiss Telecom, Australia Telecom, and even Microsoft is intersting in their products. I believed that Amati is holding a revolution product that will changed our life in the future. I attended a ITU-America Telecom Conference early in June, Amati Communications even made the name at the ITU-conference and many executives & managers discussed and looking for the way to bring the live multimedia, internet, cable TV, and video conferencing to the 670 milions telephone lines in the next decade. So forth ADSL and cable modem are talks more, many feel ADSL technology is the right choice because the existing network to everyone house and businesses.
I will posted more information to you regarding of Microsoft talked about ADSL at the Paris Conference last week and myself is working with Amati's ADSL modem to work over the ATM backbone. I am hoping I could use Amati's modem to show at Networld+Interop Conference in Atlanta in September.
Hope it helps, it is too early to invest at this time but I believed if Amati finished the trail with GTE & US West at the end of August. I think the stock will be the skyroket like PairGain and Iomega.
Good lucks, Clint |
