Some movies just don't make the transition from books well, do they? 2001, while an epic and landmark movie for special effects, was incomprehensible (to those that read the book, they at least could figure out what was being attempted).

I've been told it was because Stanley Kubrick was tripping heavily on LSD with the cast over in Pinewood. They'd have visions of what they wanted to create and the budget $$$ were racking up while the schedule was slipping. Finally, the producers put a lid on expenses and sent the whole thing over to the US to be editted into something.

Other movies that didn't transition well.

The World According to Garp.
Anything by Kurt Vonegut.

The list goes on, doesn't it?

But you know, I loved Bill Murray in The Razor's Edge.
