Like many big companies the airlines have seen their highs, but in the airline case, they have seen their all time highs. It is possible that some of them can morph into companies of different industry or of a different means of transportation, but the era of limitless horizon air travel is over. It would have ended soon enough whether the WTC event had occurred or not.
