David-
I'll leave it to Andrew and others with expertise to deal with the technology, product, and demand of SVGL vs ASML vs Canon vs Nikon. For (2), I can say what I've heard for projections of excimer laser based steppers. Nikon, Canon, and ASML have been forecast this year to produce respectively, 200, 80-90, and 80. SVGL has projected 200 micrascans/year by FY99, but keep in mind that this is a different year, and excimer laser steppers(micrascan III) currently account for a very small percentage of units shipped. This may well change. For the moment the micrascanIIs seem to be competitive with the laser based machines by producing .25 micron linewidths. I have heard (in a statement by SVGI) that the move to 300mm will practically neccessitate step and scan. I don't know if this is true, but if so, SVGI has the head start.
For (4), You can guess at revenues by multiplying 200 by 5-7 Million, which is how much a micrascan currently costs. For what it's worth, I also made an exceptionally crude estimate of what eps SVGL might contribute in 98 given current projections. exchange2000.com
I hope this is of some help.
