Re Attacking through Pakistan:
Get a map or globe and your question will be answered. There are only 3 general routes for sending a major force into Afghanistan and only 2 that are practical for a sea-based force. The land route must either pass over Russia or Iran plus one or more southern breakaway Russian republics and would require use of Turkish bases. The more practical routes for a sea-based force must pass over or through Iran or Pakistan. There is no alternative; Afghanistan has no coastline. Entering Iran, Russia or Pakistan with a military force without their approval would have grave consequences, even for the world's most powerful military force.
