Fred Ma: Shr merger impractical; not to shut NOW 2001-09-10 15:59 (Infocast News) Some suggested that 5 or 10 PCCW (0008) shares be consolidated into one to save the ever-dropping share price. Frederick Ma, Executive Director of PCCW, pointed out during a radio programme that it is impractical to consolidate shares and he thought that those proposers are kidding. He underlined that to improve the share price costs the company time and effort, and that all of the staff of the company have to work in unity for the sake of shareholders. Being asked if the interactive TV NOW is to be shut down, Ma replied that the company will not terminate NOW after consulting the clients, and he said that the nature of daily operation of NOW will be changed and the details will be released soon. Rumour has it that China Telecom plans to increase its shareholding in the company so that the share price of the company surges significantly. Ma answered that the company made clarification upon being informed of such a piece of news. He advised that investors should be cautious with the market rumours. infocastfn.com
