Amy, It appears they are willing to lose their life because they are hopeless. I do not believe that "hopelessness" is the answer and neither is money. I read a quote once from a communist leader, I think either Marx or Stalin. Basically, the gist of the quote is that the capitalists will give us, i.e. communists, money so that in the end we can hang them with it. I do not believe sending ground forces into Afghanistan is the answer. Face it, we as Americans are used to "instant gratification". What I believe the US should do is send a few cruise missiles to some uninhabited place in Afghanistan and claim a huge body count. Then, secretly, eliminate all terrorists. This is not something that will go away overnight and there are no quick "fixes".
