Re: Gus, looks like you are going to be liberated pretty soon..
Indeed... I think it's important not to mix up the involvment of the US in Central Asia with the inescapable reprisals for the Sept 11 atrocity --both are completely unrelated, in a sense... The US had to barge into Central Asia anyway, basically because of Russia's incapacity to repel the Muslim tidal wave in the area. The Taleban are merely the frontmen of Pakistan, and India was likely uncooperative with Putin because New Delhi feels more comfortable as Pakistan gets its hands full with its Northern border --better having the Pakis sucked up in the Panjsher Valley than sucked down in Kashmir!
However, if Pakistan and Russia can't come to terms with each other then... guess what's next? One day the world will awake to hear that Pakistan is ruled by the Taleban --a geopolitical feedback of sorts... With Pakistani nukes in the hands of the Taleban and General Lebed in Krasnoiarsk, I guess I don't need to draw you a picture!
Then, we've got that Shanghai Club... An outfit devised by the Chinese to offer Central Asia bumpkins the chance to travel once a year to China's glitziest city and realize how backward they'll stay if they don't listen to Beijing... Well, Jiang Zemin'd better provide for an extra chair in his club.
As for the US reprisals proper, don't worry about me... I'll get briefed by the CIA in due course. By the time US B-52s carpet-bomb Belgium, I'll have the target map --and we all know how reliable those CIA maps are, don't we??
Fingers crossed! Gus. |
