Carl,

You'll have to convince me that those statements are false. I only left the service a little over a year ago. I don't know when or if you served, but you don't appear to have an idea of how low the military's morale is. The Bush administration has made promises, but as of now, hasn't done anything to improve the state of military readiness. Our uniformed leaders willingness to go along with the previous administration's cuts in troops and equipment damaged their credibility in the eyes of the troops. We don't have any more spare parts than we had a year ago. The training dollars are minimal. No, besides special ops, the services aren't trained to battle terrorists.
They're prepared to fight from tanks, bradleys, apaches, etc. Getting muddy boots has almost become a lost art in the "Army of one". You have a bunch of enlistees in their for their one hitch and then off to college for free. My recruiting buddies can tell you, patriotism is almost non-existent in today's youth. knc
