>Bad advice? To keep the President alive?
You saying that the US Air Force was incapable of
keeping our President safe, over our own soil, from
hijacked airliners? Nonsense. The state of our
military is nowhere near such a parlous state.

No, I believe it is the job of the President to *lead*,
to project confidence and power in the midst of crisis.
Tell me how going to Nebraska sent that message to our
country's enemies abroad. If the Secret Service had its
way, President Bush would still be hidden in Offutt AFB.
That's their job. And President Bush did indeed do the
perfectly understandable and human thing and did what
they told him. But I was flabbergasted. He's supposed
to be in charge, and he should have gone to Washington,
and he let bad advice lead him astray.
