I fear you think too well of us. And I love America and in many ways we do uphold freedom. But we are also the largest maker of munitions in the world. As a friend at the UN said to me, We give Israel $3 billion in aid a year, mainly so they will buy the weapons and planes we manufacture. They actually don't need our money as they're a very wealthy country.

Your point: Your premise lays at our feet, the decision by leaders of these other countries to spend their $$ on weapons and feed their armies

We made the decision to sell them arms and feed them weapons. We helped create Hussein & Bin laden, and helped train them. We did so in order to maintain some control over oil and gas in that area.

We are not as innocent as you believe.

On the other hand--I agree--relatively speaking--we are probably the best place in the world to live. I love America. But I try to have no illusions.
