You got that right.
My sons and daughters aren't unique in their readiness, and they are ready, both to go after the bad guys, and to do what it takes here at home, which is incredibly important.
I was initially surprised there weren't lines around the block at recruiting centers by now. I think that goes to the personality issues at the top, which doesn't really speak to them (or me, ftm). But, it is abundantly clear to our young people, imo, that we have a threat, and it's time to determine how to go after them.
I'm glad we have the thoughtfulness we do, but the military and admin are unprepared, so we got our butts kicked, and are recovering a little too slowly. I'm not worried we won't have successful, absolute mad-dog killers going in, where and when necessary. Our training and two leaders, Rumsfeld and Powell look sufficiently respectable and trustworthy (i.e., no friggin' "deer in the headlights") that I think that translates to an effective fighting force. It doesn't matter anyway, this is the homeland we're fighting for, and our kids are coming to understand that in their bones, in spite of the stupidities of the past.
I think I have to make another comment to this thread that I've made to my family: We're going to have peace demonstrations. Armchair mad-dog would-be warrior types will do this country a disservice by attacking those with peace convictions. It's a waste of breath, and an attack on this country to criticize others who are being thoughtful. We need every single person to feel involved and welcome as an American if we are going to protect our neighborhoods, which is the entire purpose of this 10-year deadly exercise. Anyone who critizes peaceniks are mossback leftovers from the vietnam war, who don't have the self-confidence or the balls to realize that is part of our great and overwhelming strength and intelligence we have to defeat our enemies, so shut the f* up and leave 'em alone. Better still, buy 'em a beer and talk over how you can work together. The heroes will be the ones who contribute thoughtful insight, as well as those who fight and die. We're not Sparta. Sparta was defeated. We won't be. |
