Haim, there was a Soviet puppet government governing Afghanistan until after the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1992. Remember? There was a Communist revolution in 1978, and they killed the President of Afghanistan, Doud? And the Soviets occupied most of the country? And they didn't pull out, really, until the Soviet Union started to collapse? The collapse basically ending in 1991? Remember, the collapse of the Soviet puppet government left the country without any government but warlords? The Afghan people welcomed the Taliban because they promised order. It's been a rough 20 or so years in Afghanistan. Lots of crippled people, orphaned children, widowed women unable to work.
