I doubt anyone who supported North Korea and its dictatorship that late in the game as an "ideal" could be anything but a Marxist. The brutality of the regime was well-known.

Horowitz makes the valid point that Scheer hasn't changed ideology much and that his columns are notable for their lies and distortions - like the one you initially cited.
