good lesson for all: today a link between the recent attacks and Iraq seems to have emerged--an apparent meeting a while back between one of the pilots and an officer of Iraqi intelligence. Now this hardly validates the Mylroie thesis, and it doesn't offset the vast evidence linking the attackers to bin Laden. But it does mean that especially on murky issues such as the terrorist linkages and sponsorship one should always keep an open mind, making one's theories fit the known facts instead of cramming the facts into one's pet theories. It will be interesting to track this issue going forward, and it will give people here a sense of the kind of uncertainties and difficulties that plague actual intelligence analysts who try to parcel out responsbility and so forth.
