I watch barge traffic on the Inter coastal waterways;
It's slowed up a lot in the last two months.
A local fleeting operation ( parking lot for empty barges ) is so full they
are overflowing.
This is often a trailing indicator, orders stop long before it slows,
as when most of the last cargo shipped was ordered 3 months ago.
People who need oil & Chemicals when things are good have
to buy forward.
When I see the fleet start moving again I'll know inventories
have sold down and it won't take as long to crank up as
it did to shut down. But when that will happen I have no idea,
meanwhile all these empty barges are costing the hell out
of some one ( the interest payments on the notes don't stop )
and even parking cost money.
