Notwithstanding the fact that the U.S. fell into recession immediately after the start of both the Yom Kippur war in 1973 and the Persian Gulf war in 1990, the nation's gross domestic product was up by 1.3 percent on average six months later, and by 2.6 percent a year after.

So there is no need to panic and sell when prices are low. Indeed, you could argue that now is the time to buy -- selectively, of course.

If you liked America before last Tuesday, there is no reason why you shouldn't like it even more today.
