My understanding is that the Taliban's decisive advantage over their internal adversaries has been air power. If a few MIG's are replaced with U.S. air superiority, the Northern Alliance should be able (even with recent losses to its leadership) to grab key cities in the north without a significant injection of U.S. infantry.

The question then becomes the extent to which we eject the Taliban from the whole of Afghanistan.

p.s. Terrorist Atta's summer meeting with Iraqi intelligence being reported in several quarters. Will Europe and moderate Arab states have the stomach for necessary action against this primary sponsor of terrorism?

p.s. Syria's been mighty quiet.
