Musharraf is in a VERY difficult position politically...

Literally between a rock and a hard place, or the devil and the deep blue sea.

The last thing he wants is for India to be able to play its hand in Kashmir, which apparently is being threatened.

India's not particularly a US ally, but they despise the Pakistanis and would be more than willing to exploit the turmoil being created by Pakistans allies, the Taleban.

And then there's the chinese, who have supported the Taleban in exchange for promises not to support islamic fundamentalists in Xinjiang province, and who also have no love for the Indians.

This is VERY complex, and threatens to disrupt the balance of power in the entire region.
